So long, farewell, auf wiedersehn – hey wait!
This is our last official Moving Right Along newsletter for 2010, but we wanted you to be the first to know that we’re keeping the ‘Sponsor Me’ button at our CPC web site up and running to welcome on-line donations until at least July 31. We know this will help folks including the indomitable Guy Dauncey, who has been so busy taking action to put the brakes climate change and – this past week – enlisting BC citizens to join the June 26 Hands Across the Sand campaign to stop off-shore oil drilling that he just hasn’t had the time to do his annual run & fundraiser for Prevent Cancer Now – at least not yet. So, here’s the extra few weeks you need, Guy – and anyone else who’s in ‘better late than never’ mode. (We’re still looking to raise about $68,000, so good luck to all you last minute fellas & gals – we can sure use your help!)

Cancer Society has gotta go public…
… saying nix to a proposed asbestos loan in Quebec, and you can help! The Canadian Cancer Society is reportedly sending a private letter urging Premier Jean Charest to just say no to granting a $58 million subsidy/loan guarantee to expand the Jeffrey Mine in Asbestos, Quebec. If the mine gets the province’s guarantee, there will definitely be a new surge of deadly asbestos exported to the developing world, and many lives lost to cancer in years to come. Please take one minute to urge the Canadian Cancer Society to use its substantial clout & go public with its opposition to this very bad move. Prevent Cancer Now has made this easy for you to do at this link.

Great summer reading for super fundraisers!
If you raised $500 or more in this year’s Cancer Prevention Challenge – hey, WELL DONE. And that’s just for starters! Next, please keep an eye out in the days ahead for a special Thank You – You’re Amazing! from us. For those who reached the magic goal of $1,000 or more, this will be in the shape of a courier parcel containing two books, Sandra Steingraber’s updated version of Living Downstream, and the award-winning Cancer: 101 Solutions to a Preventable Epidemic.
These fine fundraisers (so far) include: Sarah Dobec, Dave Renaud, Jan Micklethaite, Savayda Jarone, Sue Abuelsamid, Wendy Cartwright, Marcia Wallace & Greg Bay, Diana Daghofer, Megan Venner, Sue Larsh, Mary-Martha Hale & Don Desnoyers and Liz Armstrong (hmmm, a couple of very familiar names in there). And if you raised $500 or more – and that would be you Jennifer Ajersch, Fran Rubio, Amy Sedgwick, Brooke Brugnoni and Marie Lorenzo – expect your copy of Cancer: 101 Solutions to be soon at a doorstep near you. And, book winners or not, please accept a great big THANK YOU to all who participated in 2010. We all win when funds raised support prevention – the best single opportunity to stop the cancer epidemic in Canada, now and always!
Thanks again, and have a great summer!
–Sarah & Liz
