Join hundreds of eco-conscious consumers that are expected to “mob” a local grocery store as part of a rapidly growing trend of ‘buycotting.’
“Carrotmob” is a network of consumers that rewards businesses who pledge to make environmentally and socially responsible decisions. The initial Carrotmob campaign took place in San Francisco in 2008. Since then, consumers have motivated over 50 businesses from Buenos Aires to Bangkok to invest in environmental sustainability and make community-oriented changes.
Local stores spent the last month competing for the chance to have the first-ever Toronto “Carrotmob” come to their door. The winning bid – from G’s Fine Foods is the largest in the history of Carrotmob campaigns. They have pledged to spend 100% of their revenues from April 10th on energy efficient renovations to the store. They have also pledged to start stocking their shelves with products from 15 local and sustainable-certified producers and farmers.
When tried elsewhere in the world these events have recieved national media attention. Show your grocery dollar counts and join in on this great event!! Customers are encouraged to arrive at 12:00 pm and may continue to buy as part of the Carrotmob until 4 pm.
Toronto’s first Carrotmob has partnered with:
Local Food Plus, an award-winning non-profit organization that will assist G’s Fine Foods with supplying local and sustainable foods
Windfall Ecology Centre, an environmental non-proft specializing in energy efficiency, will provide technical and policy advice for the renovations.
